What made you choose the name Menagerie Photography?
To answer that question I would have to give you a little background on the word menagerie… Most people think of the common definitions that relate to a collection of people, animals or things like a menagerie of animals at the zoo. The definition we prefer that best fits our Menagerie is Wikipedia’s listing:
– The French-language “Methodical Encyclopaedia” of 1782 defines a menagerie as: an establishment of luxury and curiosity.
As photographers, we think of the work we do and the people we photo as part of our menagerie. Our goal is to provide a business establishment that combines the luxury of individuality – to satisfy the desire to be shown in your pictures as the individual you are, and the opportunity to be curious and explore – to not just take the standard portrait photo of years past but to let each image show the unique personality of the client.
Hopefully this helps explain our choice of name and also lets you know that our little menagerie will treat you as an individual and do our best to capture your distinctive beauty in the images we create.
Where do I go to get my pictures taken?
Pictures are taken at our Lisbon CT studio. This allows us to control the environment making your event as comfortable and private as possible at any hour of the day while still being able to offer many options via numerous sets that we can customize to suit your session and your personality.
Do you do wedding photography?
We are not wedding photographers but do offer bridal boudoir photography. If a bride-to-be is looking to create a special gift to give her husband on their wedding day, we offer bridal boudoir shoots for the groom’s gift he will love forever.
About how much does the average photo session cost?
We like to keep things simple and offer two session options. Both include multiple sets and wardrobe changes as well as a fully guided photo shoot in a private studio with all of your chosen prints fully retouched. One for $250 that includes 30 minutes of shoot time and does not include hair and makeup. This option is ideal for clients looking for a very specific photograph or those looking for head shots. The other option is $400 which includes 1 hour of shoot time, hair and makeup, lunch and other amenities. No matter which you choose, there is a same-day reveal and ordering session. We have several packages to choose from ranging in price and a la carte options to customize your package.
What should I wear for my pictures?
What you choose to wear should be determined by the type of photographs that you are looking to purchase. You can dress formally or casually but keep in mind that clothing that has logos and busy prints do not photograph as well as solid colors or subtle prints. What you wear should reflect who you are personally or who you would like to be in your photographs. You can bring multiple outfits for changes within your session and we can also help with your choices during a pre-shoot consultation. Try to have your cloths ironed and ready to photograph wrinkle free.

Can I bring a friend?
Definitely! We always suggest that clients should bring a girlfriend along on their shoot. Having a girlfriend there to laugh with will help make you feel comfortable and if she would like to book a shoot as well, you will both receive 10% off your your sessions or she can receive 10% off her session and you can earn CASH! Husbands and boyfriends tend to make our clients feel self conscious and if you want to surprise him with pictures for a special occasion it will be a true surprise.
What type of photography do you do?
We specialize exclusively in Women’s Portraiture including head shots, fashion, boudoir and glamour. We offer bridal boudoir, maternity, pinup and other intimate photos for whatever occasion you personally may want to celebrate.
What type of payments do you accept and when is payment due?
We accept cash, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) and PayPal. To get on the calendar for your shoot, we require your studio fee to be paid in full. We do offer payment plans for session fees but the date is not guaranteed until your session is paid in full. Image orders are paid in full at time of order. Because of the artistic nature and customization of each session, all sales are final.
