Why Are We Intrigued By Silhouette Photography?
Have you ever seen a silhouette photo and been amazed at the power it seems to hold? These photos often are used to convey drama, mystery, emotion and mood. Instead of an image that is full of detail, color and telling a full story, silhouette images leave much to the imagination of the viewer allowing you to interpret the meaning as it relates to your story.
Silhouettes can be done in pure black and white, with a soft glow of color or even landscape silhouettes that include the amazing colors of a sunset as the background to the subject of the photo.
I have done a lot of research into why this is such a popular choice for the women I photograph and I believe that there are different reasons for each woman.
Some seem to like the anonymity that being a shadow gives them. It lets them hide their expression with no pressure to have a great smile or make eye contact.
For others it is a way to emphasize strength without the distractions of what they are wearing.
No matter the reason, each photo holds its own strength, beauty and power which ultimately holds the secret of the person being photographed.
