Part One: The Month Before Your Photography Session – Putting Together The Pieces

Your session is booked and you have the date for your big day; now the fun starts!! Planning your photo-shoot can and should be a lot of fun and I want to share some things that will remove the stress and let this be a fantastic experience!

When you’re preparing for your photo-shoot, you should start getting ready the month before your session.  Start picking outfits that you would like to wear whether you own them or need to go shopping.  You should already have decided on the theme of your shoot – Boudoir, Fashion, Fitness, Pinup or Maternity – so you and the photographer can prepare to make this an awesome experience.

If you have come into our studio, you have already seen the sets and had a chance to get to know us.  You have filled out your pre-shoot questionnaire and are on your way!  As we also encourage using a Pinterest board, we will set you up with a private board so that we can see what you like and also plan for your photo-shoot.  It is important you are filling your board with images that you love or would like to try during your session.  This board gets us all on the same page with what inspires you for poses, make-up, clothes, etc. Your session is all about you and this is a great way to let us see what you are thinking.

Menagerie Connecticut Photography - CT Boudoir Pinup Romantic Lingerie Sexy Intimate

Here are some of the items we feel are important to start on right away.

Find the clothing, lingerie, high heels, jewelry and potential props to use during your session:

  • This is the perfect excuse to go shopping, either online or a day at the mall with your girlfriends helping you choose something nice or a little bit naughty.
  • Think about what you may already own. Possibly a gown that you look amazing in but have never had the right opportunity to wear or a piece of lingerie that looks so sexy…well, you know what I mean.
  • Do you own awesome high heels that you never wear because they’re uncomfortable? Bring them to your shoot. You won’t have to walk around in them much and will only be wearing them for a few minutes.
  • Bring things that your significant other can relate to such as a sports jersey, military tags, a button down shirt, a hat, a tie, a musical instrument, sporting equipment…

Next time we will talk about what important information you need to know the week before your session so check out our next blog – Five Days before your Session – Time to Spoil Yourself!
